Bamboo weaving

Bamboo weaving is a nationally recognized intangible cultural heritage of China—a traditional craft with a long history that embodies the fruits of the diligent labor of the Chinese people. As a representative of traditional Chinese handicrafts, it merges both practicality and artistic value. Its origins can be traced back to Anyue bamboo weaving during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty.

The bamboo weaving process is generally divided into three stages: base preparation, weaving, and edge locking. The primary method used in the weaving stage is warp-and-weft weaving. On top of this foundation, a variety of techniques—such as sparse weaving, inserting, threading, trimming, locking, nailing, tying, and looping—are interwoven, resulting in a diverse range of intricate patterns and designs.
